Can Kettlebells alone let me reach my goals.

Postby Holroyd » Sat Jan 23, 2010 10:24 pm

So I have been training for over a year and last week introduced a 16kg to my routine.

I originally started in with 3 x full bodies a weeks with football 3 times a week.

then onto an olympic routine.

then on to strength and then a typical split.

So now i need a new routine

last week I did the kettlebell 300 (monday 20mins 23secs) (thursday 19 mins 11 seconds)

on tuesday and friday I did an upper and lower routine (lower tuesday)

I struggled with the upper body routine s fitting in all of them was bad .. without me adding any of my ideas can you give me some ideas what you think i should be looking to do . Do you think I can just work with kettlebells to achieve my aims ?

When I can train : Every day apart from Sat (football )

Aims : to gain as much lean muscle as I can

currently at 13 % BF at 12st 10 and im 5ft 11inch .

What do you reckon chaps all thoughts welcome

I know some people will disagree with me, but IMO, kettlebells aren't the best tool for you to reach your goals.

Aims : to gain as much lean muscle as I can - This bit stood out to me. You can build muscle with kettlebells, but you're never going to be Arnie just training with 'bells. I think barbells and dumbbells are are superior for putting on muscle.

Kettlebells are great for fat loss, fitness and GPP, so you'd benefit from getting 1 or 2 sessions with them a week, but stick with BBs, DBs and some machines for getting bigger.

Agree with Mike. To get 'big' with KBs you would need to have the weightier ones, and IMO you then lose the benefits of training with them - they just become another lump of metal, rather than something you use for higher rep, specific stuff.

To get bigger and retain fitness/gain minimal fat, I'd go with weights 3x a week (FB, push/pull/legs, upper/lower, whatever) and two KB sessions a week. It's been my approach for the last two years and it works for me. You can then control your size through food intake.

Exactly the answers im looking for.

Cheers guys.

Im thinking of doing the push/pull/legs rotuine .. then adding 2 kb sessions starting with the KB 300 . ill start a new log . My time today for the kb 300 was 15 mins . another 3 mins of my time .

because i was able to complete one exercise at a time without stopping between hahaha, and i did it outside which really helped for some reason .

Derren i will look at your log for the routine cheers Gents.

Chris .

No worries mate.

I'm a big fan of a push/pull/legs routine - really enjoying mine at the moment, and seeing some good results from it.
